Paediatric Psychology

Child Psychology focuses on helping children to overcome developmental challenges associated with emotion, thought processes, learning and behaviour.

Psychology helps children develop their ability to cope with daily stresses (stress, anxiety, anger), and helps them cope with extreme stresses (family separation, grief). They also help to identify and manage problems in their learning and educational environment  such as learning difficulties, social difficulties and friendship problems whether they be at home, child care, nursery or school. They then attempt to develop and control behaviour so that it is more appropriate to the situation.

A psychologist works closely with children, their parents and teachers to develop strategies to help the child with their challenges in a way that can be modelled and supported by the adults in their world.

Paediatric Psychology also considers how other factors contribute to learning and behaviour challenges, such as language issues requiring Speech Therapy or Sensory Processing which requires Occupational Therapy.

A Psychologist focus on the behaviour and mind of children from prenatal development through to adolescence, offering developmental and educational psychology services for children aged from birth to 18.
