Wrap-around care refers to the care given to children before and after school hours.
This service is predominantly required by working parents who need to drop off their child with a childcare provider before school opens (so that they can go to work) and need their child to be cared for after school closes, before they return from work to collect them.
Wrap-around care incurs a charge and is usually available at the following times (although this can vary considerably from school to school):
Time:
Before school times are usually from 8:00am – 9:00am
After school times are from 3:00pm to 5:00pm or 3:30pm -5:30pm etc.
Fees:
These vary according to the area you live in – check the going prices in your area to ensure that you are in line with the price of other clubs and out of hours provision. Remember older children tend to use more resources like craft materials, than younger children and they also tend to eat more. This may need to be reflected in pricing.
Food:
This will need to be included in your hourly rate or added as an extra – check the prices of other clubs, which provide food. Be prepared for those occasions when children are picked up and tell you they are starving, but you have not budgeted for snacks. Or they are dropped off without first having had breakfast. Decide whether you will provide breakfast and tea, just tea and if you will charge extra. Remember, cooked food requires you to follow additional regulations.
Ensure you have a copy of the Childcare Register and ensure you are meeting each requirement.
