As with all businesses there are set up costs to consider, as well as ongoing costs. There are three types when starting up a childminding business: Costs required for registration, costs incurred in preparing your home and set up costs to run your business.
Although some may get help from the council through the Childcare Business Grant Scheme, which offers £250 – £500 for new childminding businesses set up in England, this will only really cover registration costs. £500 being given to those catering for children with disabilities.
Here are a few costs to consider:
- For registration
- Training Course to become a Childminder from £150 dependent on provider
- Paediatric First Aid and Training course from £80 dependent on provider
- Health Declaration check from £35 dependent on your doctor’s fees
- Registration on Ofsted Early Years Register from £35 depending on whether you are based in England or Wales
- Registration on Ofsted Childcare Register from £104 depending on whether you are based in England or Wales (discount maybe given if both registered are selected)
- Childminder Public Liability insurance and toolkit from £150, including fire blanket, First Aid Kit
- DBS check/s from £40
These costs roughly come to around £500
