Between the age of 4 and 5, during a child’s year in Reception, Reception teachers and practitioners observe a child’s development and track their progress to cater for the needs of the child.
While the content of the Early Learning Goals (ELGs) are only assessed at the end of the year, they are used to drive planning throughout the year to help children work towards these goals.
During the final term of the year (no later than the 30 June), a final assessment is carried out. This is called the Early Years Foundation Stage Profile or EYFSP for short.
In this assessment, the child’s developmental progress is summarized from the year’s tracking data and then the outcomes shared with parents / carers. A short summary of each of the child’s skills and abilities are also included in relation to the three key characteristics of effective learning.
