Ingredients
200 g Maris Piper potatoes
125g plain flour
1 tsp garlic salt
1 tsp onion salt
1 tsp salt
1tsp paprika
120ml water
Sunflower (or vegetable) oil for frying
Method
- Wash, peel and slice potatoes into 1/2 cm discs and place in cold water to stop browning.
- Heat oil in a large frying pan to a medium heat.
- While oil is heating, mix flour, garlic salt, onion salt and paprika into a large bowl, add a little water at a time, as you stir, until a thick paste is formed. Add a little more until you have a runny batter.
- Dip the potato into the batter, then into the hot oil. Ensure they do not stick together. Once golden brown remove and drain on paper towels.
Top tips:
Make southern fries like this too, instead of slices cut the potato into 1cm sticks.
