Month 1

During the first month of life, infants spend a long time sleeping. This gives parents particularly mother’s time to recover from the labour. Their abilities are very limited now so there are few activities that they can do while they are awake, these include:

• Responds to sound
• Study faces when feeding or focus on close items that are within 8 to 12 inches, such as mobiles etc.
• They can attempt to lift their heads
• Exhibit strong reflexive responses when their cheeks are touched or stroked
• They also have a reflexive grasp when something is placed in their hand
• They also respond to light, blinking and squinting, as required.
