Tax Thresholds

Every person in the UK has a personal allowance. This means you are legally allowed to earn a certain amount of money each year, before you need to start paying tax. The current threshold is £11,000. In other words you do not need to pay tax for the first £11,000 you earn (2016/2017), but will need to pay tax on any money you earn over this amount.
