Treat yourself to an Epsom Salt Bath

What is Epsom Salt?

Epsom salt is a mineral containing magnesium sulfate, which has many therapeutic purposes.

It has been used for hundreds of years for its healing properties and now used in the leisure and beauty industries. The magnesium can be absorbed easily through the skin, once dissolved in water, and helps to repair and heal damaged or aching muscle tissue. It also reduces stress and helps to overcome magnesium deficiencies which can lead to high blood pressure, hyperactivity, heart problems and a whole host of other health issues.

It reduces the itching and swelling of bee stings, mosquito bites and sunburn, draws the moisture out of rashes caused by poison ivy and more.

 

How to prepare an Epsom Salt Bath

Pour two cups of Epsom salts at the tap end of a standard sized bath, so that the pressure from the running warm water helps it to dissolve quicker. Once the bath has been filled with water, take a soak for at least 15 minutes and let the dissolved salts absorb in through your skin.

Epsom Salt Foot spa

To soak aching feet, simply pour 1 cup of Epsom salts into a large tub of warm water, once dissolved let your feet soak for at least 15 minutes.

To make an Epsom Salt paste for skin injuries or sunburn

Add a teaspoon of Epsom salt to a cup of hot water until dissolved, let it cool then chill in the fridge for around 20 minutes. Then apply the paste to clean, dried skin to ensure it sticks.

 

To make an Epsom salt compress

Add two tablespoons of Epsom salt to a cup of water, ensure some of the salts have dissolved. Soak a cotton facecloth in the salt solution and apply to the skin as a compress.
